What happens when you convert AVI to FLAC
- Only the sound is converted; the video is left out.
- AVI files usually use older codecs (Xvid, DivX) that browsers can't read, so the ffmpeg engine (about 31 MB) loads the first time.
- FLAC is lossless, so nothing more is lost, but quality already removed by AVI compression doesn't come back. Files are much bigger.
- FLAC files are saved as 16-bit audio, the same quality as a CD.
- Mono and stereo are kept (or choose either); surround sound is mixed down to stereo.
- Tags such as title, artist and cover art aren't copied yet.

Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to convert my files here?
Yes. Conversion happens entirely in your browser. Your files are never uploaded to a server, so nobody else can see them.
Is it free? Are there limits?
It's completely free, with no sign-up, watermarks or daily limits. The only limit is your device's memory for very large files.
Can I convert many AVI files at once?
Yes. Drop as many files as you like; they're converted one after another and you can download them all as a ZIP.
Will converting AVI to FLAC reduce quality?
No. FLAC is lossless, so nothing more is lost. It can't restore detail that AVI compression already removed.
Why is the FLAC file so much bigger than the AVI?
AVI uses lossy compression to keep files small. FLAC stores the audio without that compression, so it needs more space.
Are tags and cover art kept?
Not yet. The sound is converted, but title, artist and album art aren't copied.
