What happens when you convert DNG to AVIF
- If the DNG holds a full-size preview, as iPhone ProRAW and most cameras' files do, you get exactly that: the photo as your phone or camera processed it.
- Otherwise the raw data is developed here, using the white balance, color profile and exposure stored in the file, plus its lens corrections.
- The result is a finished photo in 8-bit color at full resolution. Keep the DNG if you want to edit the raw later.
- AVIF uses lossy compression, so files get much smaller. Use the Quality slider to balance size and detail.
- Creating AVIF works in Chrome, Edge and Safari.

Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to convert my files here?
Yes. Conversion happens entirely in your browser. Your files are never uploaded to a server, so nobody else can see them.
Is it free? Are there limits?
It's completely free, with no sign-up, watermarks or daily limits. The only limit is your device's memory for very large files.
Can I convert many DNG files at once?
Yes. Drop as many files as you like; they're converted one after another and you can download them all as a ZIP.
Will converting DNG to AVIF reduce quality?
You get the full resolution and the colors of the original rendering. The extra highlight and shadow detail of raw doesn't carry over: a JPG or PNG holds 8-bit color, the same as your camera's own JPEGs.
Will it look like it does on my iPhone?
Yes. iPhone saves its own full-size rendering inside every ProRAW file, and that's what gets converted. Raw files without one are developed from their color profile, which comes close to the camera's look but isn't identical.
Should I keep the DNG?
Keep it if you might edit the photo again. The DNG has far more highlight and shadow detail than the converted file, which is meant for sharing, posting and printing.
Which browsers does the DNG to AVIF converter work in?
It works in the latest Safari, Chrome and Edge, on computers and phones.
